Biography
Raghav Chadha is Punjab’s youngest Rajya Sabha member as of May 2022.
In addition to being an MP for the Rajendra Nagar constituency in Delhi until 2022, he is also the Vice Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board.
Chadha first met Arvind Kejriwal during the India Against Corruption protest in 2011.
His first political assignment was drafting the Delhi Lokpal Bill the following year. After being the AAP’s TV face, Chadha became popular.
At 26, Raghav became the AAP’s national treasurer, and the party won the 2015 assembly election with the most votes. Other than politics, Chadha is a professional accountant. Political Career
A member of Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement, Chadha joined in 2011. The movement introduced him to Arvind Kejriwal. AAP member Chadha joined the party at its inception. He wrote his first political bill, the Delhi Lokpal Bill, with Mr. Kejriwal’s help in 2012. He was the AAP’s on-screen representative and one of the youngest party spokespeople overall.
After the 2015 election for the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Chadha, then only 26 years old, was appointed national treasurer for AAP. He and nine other advisors were fired by Rajnath Singh, then-Union Minister of Home Affairs, in April 2018.
Lok Sabha Election
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw him run from the South Delhi Parliamentary Constituency. In the elections, BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri defeated him by 50%. Sushma Swaraj, Madan Lal Khurana, and Ramesh Bidhuri have represented South Delhi as BJP leaders since the 1980s.
He was promoted to co-in-charge of the AAP Punjab for the upcoming 2020 election to the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
Delhi Assembly MLA
He defeated the BJP’s RP Singh in the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election from Rajendra Nagar by 20,058 votes. He received 57.06% of the vote. He received the Delhi Government’s water portfolio and DJB vice-chairmanship after the elections.
Rajya Sabha MP
AAP nominated Delhi MLA Raghav Chadha and four others for a six-year term in the Rajya Sabha from Punjab on March 21, 2022. No candidate from the opposition fought against their election win. At 33, he was the youngest MP. In Rajya Sabha, he joined the Standing Committee on Finance. NITI Aayog and three union ministries’ legislation and policies are overseen by the committee.
In April 2022, he claimed that the BJP intentionally sparks violence by relocating Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to the Delhi area.
Due to the party’s performance in Punjab, he was named Gujarat Legislative Assembly election co-in-charge on September 18, 2022.
Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisor Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann selected Raghav as Advisory Panel Chairman after the AAP’s victory. The High Court rejected his appointment challenge.
